tatertotHello! I am a volunteer & foster for a wonderful organization in our town, Hope Animal Rescues. Hope started in 2005, when two women, Jackie and Kim, went to help pets abandoned during Hurricane Katrina.
My rescue story, is of a little beagle named Tate. Tate was pulled from a gas chamber in Tennessee by Hope Animal Rescues in Godfrey IL at the very last minute before he was to be euthanized and transported to their sanctuary the summer of 2014. My husband and I offered to foster Tate and went to pick him up August 31, 2014.
Tate was pretty much feral, completely scared of all humans. They told me to introduce him to our other dogs in the house, and like an idiot, I put him in our back yard. It took around 3 hours to catch him!
From there we consistently tried to show him that humans aren’t all bad. It has been a year and a half, and he still doesn’t trust all humans, but he trusts us. It took a long time, but watching him come out of his shell has been an amazing experience. He is a handful, and has proven to be a great dog. He goes to doggie daycare 4 days a week, which has helped with his socialization. I can’t imagine why he ever ended up where he did because he is truly amazing. He has his own Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Tate-TV-329234720534290/?ref=hl), where he likes to show off his many talents. Tate also won 2nd place in the Hope Animal Rescues calendar contest (Mr. February). He is very photogenic, with a huge personality. He really is a character, and we are overjoyed to have given him his second chance at life.
